Land Diving-Pentecost Island
Best Times: December - May.
Our adventure starts in Efate Island, from there we sail to Lamen Bay on Epi for dinner ashore and our first night at anchor.
Next day we sail past beautiful Paama Island, Ambrym and the blackened volcanic slopes of Lopevi, to reach our destination,Pentecost Is.
Saturday is Nagol Day (Land diving). We will be welcomed ashore by Chief Wari and led up to the towers where the ritual takes place. Twelve of the bravest local young men will plummet from platforms high in the rickety looking towers with only vines attached to their ankles .
Afterwards we may go to a refreshing waterfall , watch the villagers perform a Snake Dance and and other traditional activities. There is also the chance to sample some of the best kava in Vanuatu!
Sunday is a leisurely start and a short sail to Ranon on Ambrym Is. There we will watch the famous Rom Dance performed and check out the intricate carvings this village is renowned for.
From there we sail back to Epi Is and perhaps a swim with turtles and dugongs before heading back to Efate , with one last night at Emae Is. before arriving in Havannah Harbour on Wednesday.
